Carey was once a popular fashion model. She stands almost 5'10" tall and was very sought-after by the high-end American fashion designers like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren as well as others. Her father was a prominent geologist and recognized as the Scientist from 1979 by Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey has lived all over the world because of his work. She started modeling part time during her time at university at the University of Colorado and caught the eye of a rep from the Ford model Agency in New York. The model briefly studied and lived in Paris before returning back to New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she appeared on the covers of Glamour's and Vogue's and many other magazine covers. She was a full-time student at New York University, obtaining the degree in Literature, which she earned in between assignments as a model. In time, she began to become interested in acting and attended the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986, she made her debut in acting with a minor character as a minor character in "Club Paradise" alongside Robin Williams. She is a rock climber as well as skiing and windsurfing.
